Most shared hosts that utilize cPanel have multiple versions of PHP installed. Using the 'PHP Version Manager' from cPanel you can check to make sure your application directories are using a supported version of PHP (5.4 minimum as of late). I ran into this issue deploying on shared hosting once and this resolved the issue for me.
