Learn how the framework works. Start with simple examples. Search for "laravel toturial" and you should find many good ones. Also youtube, laracasts...
You won't get very far by just creating a site with no knowledge of the framework. All you'll end up doing is fixing "old" code once you'll find a better/easier way of doing things.
