I think it depends on the size of your application. Do you have a lot of users with a lot of content, then the time frame is properly smaller than for application without many users.

I run www.tilsalg.dk where I have a section on the frontpage to show new items, and they are updated daily. I just grab the latest 20 items. That fells natural...

It's not time-based. It just indicates if the model was created during the current request. See docs.
