The problem is that your htaccess file is redirecting anything that starts with "public", which includes your "publication" routes. You might be able to fix this by changing your htaccess file so the rewrite condition matches everything that doesn't start with "^public/" or "^public$".

I gave both a try

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^public/

and

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^public$

but still get the same error. At least now I know whats causing it.

Well thats fixed. I found instructions on how to change the webroot for cpanel based system. Post #2 tells it all.
