yes I am also having this problem (albeit a bit different).

when you are redirected back from a social network (e.g. facebook) you get given some details of the user.. you store them into your database and use the AUTH functionality to log them in. and then just check as if you would normally

auth::check(user).. or something like that (it is all there in teh authentication page)

@shez1983: after a few more tries I managed to get it working smoothly, the flow is like you described, i.e. create and authenticate the user once the service provider redirects to the callback url. Logging-in is also the right moment to check for updates in the profile returned by the service provider.

It's also worth noting that some users reported problems with InvalidState exception, the solution is to set the domain (default is null) for the session handler.
