Laravel is built into parts, so unless you have already built something with Laravel, if you are starting from scratch, I would suggest to integrate individual components instead of loading the whole Laravel app.

PS: the author made use of Laravel 4.2 for a reason, so you might not get the same result if you start off from Laravel 5.
