It sounds like your home directory is not set to /public directory.

Are you on MAMP/XAMP or did you install apache and mysql yourself?

Hey thanks for the response.

I'm using the Apache server included with OS X Mavericks that I activated along with PHP. I installed MySQL myself. Is there a way to set the home directory to /public for any project I put in a general folder, myapps, or do I have to change it on a per project basis?

No problem!

Try http://ole.michelsen.dk/blog/setup-local-web-server-apache-php-macos-x-mavericks/ (scroll down a little bit)

I didn't even know Mavericks comes with an installation of apache. I'm sure it's possible to setup multiple projects with apache in Mavericks, but I've never done it. It would be much easier with MAMP or XAMP. Give it a shot.

If you're comfortable with linux commands, try Laravel Homestead (http://laravel.com/docs/homestead?version=4.2). It's better than MAMP or XAMP.
