- why are you ftp uploading ? that is not a good method. if you want to keep your images on a different server or cache them consider using a cdn,
- have you tried the intervention image cache package ? http://image.intervention.io/use/cache if it's too complex for you i've written a simpler version https://github.com/astroanu/laravel-image-cache
