I'm using Gulp to manage all of my assets and collections. I know it doesn't use assetic, but I'm just throwing it out there as a possible alternative.

Yeah, I moved to Gulp to. Bit ironic perhaps (as you link my package), but also Basset and Laravel Guard are no langer maintainer, because they shifted to Gulp (or Grunt) https://github.com/JeffreyWay/Laravel-Guard https://github.com/jasonlewis/basset
